Before my arrival in Lithuania, my tutor Zivile warned me about the intense cold, prompting me to pack an assortment of warm clothing. Little did I know that the chill would be more intense than anticipated, with winter making an early entrance in October! The weather was downright freezing, yet as the days unfolded, I found myself adapting and, surprisingly, developing a fondness for the cold.
Upon reaching Sirvintos, a week of leisure awaited me. During this time, I acquainted myself with Jelena and fellow volunteers. Together, we participated in Remembrance Day activities at the cemetery, paying our respects by placing candles on the graves.
The next day i explored Vilnius with Gülsüm. We delved into the intricacies of the city's architecture, wandered through the Old Town, and ascended Three Crosses to marvel at the breathtaking panorama.
Next day, the Youth Center revealed a warm and welcoming community. I connected with other Turkish volunteers Furkan, Gülsüm, and Refik.
Evenings in Sirvintos offered a celestial spectacle, unobstructed by city lights, allowing me to relish nightly strolls along the lakeside serene and enchanting experience.
Following days we went to Gelvonai with Jelena and the volunteer team provided opportunities for engaging games and conversations with local youth. The following day, we did a celebration of Turkish culture in Musninki. As I cooked mantı, Refik and Furkan made pide and menemen, after that we played games.
Weekends became a canvas for exploration, particularly in Vilnius, where I immersed myself in museum visits. Reflecting on this incredible month, filled with cultural exchanges and newfound affections for Lithuania, I cherish amazing experiences that have marked the beginning of my adventure in this captivating country.
