Furkan's Exciting August Memories of Lithuania!

Updated: Oct 25, 2023

My fourth month in Lithuania has started off with full of activities. We have done a Turkish evening with other volunteers. There was Turkish music, food, dances, some presentations and lots of attendence. It was all in all a great evening.

After that, we went to Kretinga for a youth camp. At the camp, everyone was staying in tents, and we did so as well. There were a lot of activities, workshops and trainings in the camp. With the attendence of all youth centers across Lithuania, many competitions were also made. In which our team has won some of them.

Next week after Kretinga, we have organised a Hawaii night at Širvintos beach. There were outdoor games, some workshops, a bike and car show as well as some competitions. It was a very fun evening.

In August, I also went to Latvia. There was some sort of celebration in Riga and I listened to some concerts as well as just exploring Riga for a couple of days.

Then, we went to attend the Baltic State Marathon. The fact that people run from Vilnius to Talinn each year really surprised me a lot. And of course, we did not run from Vilnius to Talinn. We ran for a couple of kilometers and went home to rest.

I believe that Lithuania does have a lot of cultural differences when compared to my country of origin. However, I really like exploring these differences and learn more about how people live with my own eyes instead of conducting research about it.
