My first month in Lithuania went pretty good. I was shocked about the hospitality of the people of Širvintos and how good they are against foreigners. In my first week, I was introduced our work space and started making plans.
I’ve spent my first month mostly discovering where I live, however, I have been to Vilnius as well. Such a beautiful city with an amazing old town I would say.
Then, we went to Musninkai in 2nd June to celebrate 20th anniversary of the Musninkai Community. From dancing, singing to playing all kinds of instruments, the celebrations were a lot of fun. Members of the community and the residents of Musninkai were there. Aside from that, the mayor of Širvintos was also present.
Next week, we went to have a picnic and a volleyball tournament with Gelvonai High School. We also did canoeing, various other competitions, swimming, walking and dancing. It was a great day.
In the next week, we celebrated the bubble dome’s opening that we had on the yard of our youth center. There were music performances of any kinds. I have also performed some songs. Other than that, there were a lot of different kinds of food in celebration. Since I have just arrived there, I was curious about the snacks and food of Lithuania. To say the least, they were quite delicious.
And the next day, there was the national football match between Latvia and Türkiye. So we went to Riga to watch it as it was being played there. We met with some other Turkish people in Riga and cheered our way into the stadium. The match was breathtaking and a lot of fun.
There was another celebration in Kernave the next week. It was the celebration of longest day. Kernave, being known for it’s incredible UNESCO protected church and amazing views, hosted many locals as well as foreigners to celebrate the longest day. There was concerts, big fires, torch walks and old viking village tours all across the town. It was a very fun and interesting day.
With all these experiences in just the first month, I can only hope that my time here will be amazing...
